NCPA is a joint powers agency that purchases, generates, distributes, and sells electrical energy. Its members include 11 municipalities, one irrigation district, one public utility district, one port authority, and one rural electric cooperative. At the Geysers, treated effluent is being injected into NCPA's steam field that serves/supplies its two geothermal power plants.
Calpine Corporation is America’s largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources with operations in competitive power markets. At The Geysers, treated recycled water is injected into the geothermal resource where it is converted into steam for electricity production. This provides an environmentally sound recycled water discharge solution while increasing the long-term productivity of The Geysers resource. Calpine owns and operates 13 geothermal power plants capable of generating 725 megawatts of green energy around the clock
