Literacy Program

What does the adult literacy program do?

For Tutors

We train volunteer tutors in methods of reading and writing instruction to assist their learners. Literacy Program staff match tutors and learners. No teaching experience is necessary. Training, ongoing support, and materials provided at no cost. Flexible volunteering opportunities.

For Literacy Students

All you need is to have a desire to improve your reading and/or writing skills. Learners must be at least 16 years old and out of the traditional high school environment. ESL services are also provided for anyone interested in learning English as a Second Language.

How do you become eligible for services?

Also available to families of adult learners is the Family Literacy Program. This is a family training program to help adult learners encourage their young children to become readers through one-to-one sessions, family events, and book giveaways.

Family Literacy also creates a monthly newsletter to help adult learners assist their children with literacy activities. View the Family Literacy Newsletter
