Marriage Licenses and Ceremonies
For a legally recognized marriage, a marriage license must be purchased prior to the marriage ceremony.
A Marriage License purchased from the Lake County Clerk may be used for any ceremony held within the state of California. However, it must be recorded in the same county it was issued in.
Our hours are Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) from 8 am to 5 pm. A couple may come in at any time during those hours to apply. Government-issued Identification and payment are required at time of purchase.

- Marriage Certificates
- Marriage Certificates are available after the completed license has been submitted to the County the license was purchased in. For public marriages, please call the Lake County Recorder's Office at 707-263-2293. For confidential marriages, please call the Lake County Clerk's Office at 707-263-2311.
Pursuant to State proclamations, fees for certified copies of marriage records are suspended for any party who lost such record as a result of certain wildfires. When requesting a free copy - a Sworn Statement (PDF) must be included with your application.
Confidential Marriage Licenses are registered with the County Clerk's Office, to obtain a certified copy please complete the Application for a Certified Copy of a Confidential Marriage License (PDF).
Note: Confidential marriage licenses may only be obtained by one of the two parties to the marriage, a mailed application will only be accepted if the Certificate of Acknowledgement is completed by a notary public to confirm the identity of the applicant.
